49- Sabre Training Advisory Group: Knowing and Understanding History and its Nuances (Part 1)
The MCS Podcast goes back to Ukraine, or at least the topic of Ukraine.
In this episode Pat is joined by Kevin, the man at the helm of Sabre Training Advisory Group. Sabre is a professional military non-profit organization operating out of Ukraine with the aim to provide Ukrainians the skills to be assets to not only the ones around them, but themselves in the current conflict that is ongoing. The MCS podcast was first introduced to Sabre through a previous guest, Jon (Strandhogg episodes 21 and 27). Jon spoke very highly of the organization and was able to put us in touch with them so we could learn about the work they're doing and the lessons they've learned in the constantly changing modern conflict zone.
Kevin from Sabre Training Advisory Group takes the spotlight, unraveling the organization's origins and challenges in fostering interoperability among Ukrainian forces. From humble beginnings in a worn-out Jeep to negotiating partnerships with military branches, Kevin shares the highs, lows, and imposter syndrome in running the NGO. The conversation delves into Ukraine's cultural renaissance, criticizing misrepresentations in Western narratives and emphasizing the importance of independent perspectives.
The podcast then explores the evolving civilian gun culture in Ukraine, providing insights into the shift during the ongoing conflict. Kevin details the surge in civilian gun ownership, highlighting the importance of firearms in resisting the invasion. Pat and Kevin further discuss military training, asymmetrical warfare, and the significance of practicality, creativity, and mission command in adapting to unconventional situations.
The journey concludes with Kevin sharing his military training experiences, underscoring the value of creative problem-solving and mentorship. His stories from a kill house exemplify unconventional thinking's impact. The episode wraps up with reflections on the challenges of running an NGO, the importance of effective communication, and a call to check out the Sabre Training Advisory Group's website and Instagram for more insights. Embark on this multifaceted exploration of friendship, conflict, and transformation in this compelling podcast episode.
